Himalayan Journal of Sociology & Anthropology-Vol. III Pollution of Seti River in Pokhara An Anthropological Perspective Amrit Kumar Bhandari Abstract Seti River is one of important components of the ecology of Pokhara so it holds a great significance for maintaining ecological balance and fulfilling different types of needs of people here. But only a few people are aware of its real value while others are pretending to be unaware of this and are accelerating its pollution. It’s true that its pollution is not as devastating as the pollution of the Bagmati and the Vishnumati in Kathmandu. But its pollution is increasing, if it goes on increasing like this, it will surely reach that devastating stage in the near future which will threaten the existence of eco-system and components including human kind inhabiting around its vicinity.

Our study of the Seti River in far western Nepal shows that the solute chemistry of the river and its tributaries is strongly controlled by geology. The Seti flows through four distinct terranes, starting with the Tethyan sedimentary series (TSS) and Greater Himalayan series (GHS). TSS/GHS waters display Sr/Sr ratios of ,0.73 and high Sr and Ca, consistent with the composition of limestone and ...
متن کاملAssessment of Heavy Metals Pollution in Water and Sediments of Djendjen River, North Eastern Algeria
Water and sediment samples have been collected from five different stations, located along Djendjen River between February and June, 2016 so that the concentrations of Cd, Ni, Zn, and Cu could be determined. The extent of the sediment pollution has been assessed, using the multiple pollution indices, namely Contamination Factor (CF), Pollution Load Index (PLI), and the geoaccumulation index (Ig...
متن کاملGeochemical assessment and pollution of heavy elements in the Revenj River sediments in the northwest of Torbat-e-Jam
In this study, the pollution of the Revenj River sediments with heavy elements has been studied. Revenj River catchment with an area of 131 Km2 is located 20 kilometers from the city of Torbat-e-Jam (northeast of Iran). To investigate the contamination of sediments with heavy elements, 15 samples of sediments were taken from the area and analyzed by ICP-MS. In order to monitor the contamina...

Water and sediment samples were collected from six different stations, located along the Nil River between February and June 2015. Concentrations of cadmium, lead, zinc, and copper were determined. The extent of the sediment pollution was assessed, using the multiple pollution indices, namely contamination factor (CF), pollution load index (PLI), and the geoaccumulation index (Igeo). The result...
